Meaning: to enjoy an experience as much as possible because you did not have the opportunity to do it earlier in life, to do something as much as possible because you were not able to do it before
Example: I didn't travel much in my twenties but I'm certainly making up for lost time now. After seven years in prison, he’s home with his kids and making up for lost time.
