Ace in the hole
Meaning: something important held in reserve, a hidden but effective means of winning a conflict, secret knowledge or a secret skill that will give you an advantage (also, an ace up your sleeve)
Example: The other team thinks they can win this basketball game, but that’s only because we haven’t put our best player in yet. He’s our ace in the hole. The twenty-dollar bill I keep in my shoe is my ace in the hole.
